Effective LobbyingJoining the SPARKS Network means you will be part of an EU-wide group that represents your needs. It gives you a focus for lobbying and influencing activities in your own country and at European level. Now is the time to get involved. Cities and regions are considering new solutions to manage traffic demand but questions on enforcement are often ignored. Many are considering introducing decriminalised parking enforcement and other traffic control schemes. The European Commission is active in this area – it is proposing a new directive on cross-border enforcement, while its green paper on urban mobility may recommend further legislative initiatives. The SPARKS Network will give you an opportunity to influence the shape of these and other new laws. By joining the network you will be able to increase awareness of the issues among your own politicians and officials, gaining their support for changes in national and EU legislation. Through the network you will meet many people with whom you might otherwise not be in contact: local authority colleagues in other member states, MEPs, EU officials and national civil servants, academics and lawyers with an interest in traffic management. Their diverse views will help you consider new ways of tackling the problems you face and give opportunities for collaborative working between organisations. |
