Unified EU Voice for traffic authorities

Item Added 10 March 2008
SPARKS Network will take forward influencing programme into European Commission during 2008

Lobbying in Brussels will become easier for local traffic enforcement authorities with the establishment of the SPARKS Network, designed to give members a collective voice within the EU.

The network will lobby for legislative change at EU level and also provide members with an online community for debate and sharing best practice. Additionally it will develop a library of support materials for members who wish to lobby their own governments.

Membership of the network will be open to organisations responsible for traffic enforcement, including local municipalities and their associations, regional and central government bodies and police forces.

Vehicle licensing agencies, academic institutions, private sector companies and not for profit organisations will be welcome to join the network as associate members.

“Through the network we are widening the scope of SPARKS so that it becomes a truly European initiative rather than just UK-based,” said programme manager Bill Blakemore.

“Many of the delegates at the Eurosparks seminars said they want to be involved in future activities including influencing the EU, the network will make it easy for them to do so.”

The network was announced at the Eurosparks Brussels seminar in late January. SPARKS steering group members are currently finalising the membership and associate packages and the prospectus. They will be launched later in the spring.

If your organisation is interested in joining the network please register your interest here.
